Why we made this one
Riding without training wheels is the first big thing a child does with their whole body that used to need a grown-up. What they believe going in is that being let go of means falling, so they hand their balance to the hand on the seat. The story keeps that hand there through the wobble, and then tells the truth the moment it lifts: the balance was already theirs.
It gives the grown-up a few things to borrow. The helmet click as the start of the big day, every ride from the very first ride. The hand on the seat and the run beside. The letting go told as proof, never as a trick. A wobble treated as information, and a look back at a far-away grown-up with both arms in the air.
